Victory Day is also called Armed Forces Day. This is probably why August 30th, or Victory Day in Turkey also coincides with graduation day in Turkey’s military schools. This way ceremonies not only remember the vicotry against the Greek forces, but also celebrate the Turkish Armed Forces, and the Republic as a whole.

Will Victory Day in Turkey affect your travels?

If you find yourself in a big city, you will almost certainly witness one of the many military parades, often featuring demonstrations flights with military jets. Expect to see the Turkish flag or flags of Atatürk everywhere, while a formal ceremony is held at Anıtkabir, the Mausoleum of Atatürk in Ankara.
