Finding the most romantic places in a beautiful and vast country like Turkey is hard and easy at the same time. Hard, because there are too many candidates, and easy because you have a wealth of places in Turkey to choose from. In any case, don’t worry, there’s no shortage of excellent valentine’s day ideas and destinations in Turkey. Here are the 10 most romantic places in Turkey that do not require traveling too far east, including a list of hotels with a fireplace.

Cappadocia

Out Of This World Cappadocia

Yes, Cappadocia is an obvious choice, but there’s no denying that this is an extraordinary place, with a particularly romantic appeal. Visiting Cappadocia in winter means you have to prepare for all kinds of weather. At night, it gets significantly colder than during the day when you can encounter anything from sunny weather, over rain, wind and even snow. Cappadocia is in full swing in winter, get your comfy winter clothes on and enjoy the scenery. Visit central Cappadocia’s treasures away from the masses or head a bit further afield and discover the hidden gems of Cappadocia outside the National Park. Balloon rides are just as magical and romantic in winter as they are in any other season. There’s always a risk of cancellation due to adverse wind conditions or poor visibility, but this is just as much a risk in winter as it is throughout the rest of the year. If you are planning a ride as a part of your romantic escapade, make sure to schedule it at the beginning of your stay. This way, you’ll get another shot at it one of the following mornings. Make the most out of your Cappadocia winter trip by staying at the Millstone Cave Suites Hotel. This romantic hotel in the shadow of Üçhisar Castle has cave rooms with views to die for, a firepit for those romantic roof terrace moments, and a selection of rooms with unique features such as a private Turkish bath.

Çıralı

Bucolic Olympos

Bucolic Olympos

We have such fond memories of our trip to romantic Olympos, Çıralı, and Yanartaş. The whole area is spectacular, with a gorgeous beach, one of the most romantic ancient sites we’ve come across in Turkey, and of course, the eternal flames of Yanartaş. ETERNAL FLAMES! Does it ever get more romantic than that? While this is not an obvious choice for a winter destination, it doesn’t make it less suitable. Çıralı is the perfect spot for sunset beach walks, star gazing and pampering yourself in one of the luxurious rooms with a fireplace at Olympos Lodge Hotel. This slice of paradise has lush green gardens and direct access to the beach. The perfect place to forget about the world!

Alaçatı

Boho Chic Alaçatı

Boho Chic Alaçatı

Tucked away on the Çeşme peninsula, near Izmir, Alaçatı is your ideal boho-chic escape. The beautifully restored houses and narrow cobbled streets are the settings for plenty of boutique hotels, quirky shops, and tastefully decorated restaurants. If you like picturesque combined with upscale, then Alaçatı is the kind of place you’re looking for! If you’re considering to go jet-setting in Alaçatı as one of your valentine’s day ideas, check out Hotel Pop. Some of their uniquely decorated vintage rooms feature a fireplace. After a cozy night, you’ll be happy to know their traditional local farm-to-table Turkish breakfast is the perfect kickstart to explore the area. The region is renowned for its wines, so a wine tasting tour of the peninsula is an excellent way to explore the surroundings. If you’d rather have a local guide to show you around, get in touch with Zeynep for a customized and private tour of Çeşme and Alaçatı.

Kaleiçi

Charming Kaleiçi

Charming Kaleiçi

Kaleiçi is the perfect destination if you like bustling cities, but you’re looking for an intimate place. Wandering the streets of Antalya old town, you’re discovering a part of Antalya that is a universe on its own. This maze of narrow streets hides historical monuments such as the famous Hadrian Gate, but also plenty of shabby-chic restaurants and trendy cafes, coffee bars, and boutique hotels in one of the many restored mansions of Kaleiçi. If you’re willing to go the extra romantic mile, you can even take a tour in a horse and carriage. There’s no shortage of attractive hotels, but not all of them have the fireplace we promised at the beginning of this post. White Garden Hotel does, and with its excellent location, right in the heart of Kaleiçi, you’ll step right from this Ottoman-era building into the charming streets of the old town for an evening stroll.

Şirince

Romantic Şirince

Romantic Şirince

Şirince is a picture-perfect village near Ephesus. It has a problem though… It has become the victim of its popularity. During high season, buses come and go, leaving you no room to move in this tiny little village. Fortunately, when the sun sets, the village goes back to its quiet nature after the daytrippers have left. The advantage of a winter-getaway to Şirince is that you won’t have to worry about too many tourists flocking the streets. That is why Şirince is an ideal romantic winter destination. The village offers beautiful views of the surrounding valleys, and its picturesque houses and streets certainly qualify as romantic. Add a bit of local wine and a room with a fireplace in the restored Ilya Konak, and you have the perfect cocktail for a romantic weekend.

Kalkan or Kaş

Typical Kaş

Typical Kaş

Kalkan and Kaş are two pretty villages not too far apart. They are both so quaint we couldn’t figure out which one to put on this list, so we’ll let you decide where you lay your feet down. Both have a beautiful old town with lots of restored Greek houses and the Mediterranean at your feet. They are the perfect place to stroll around, enjoy the sea views, and finish it off with a romantic dinner in a typical restaurant. If you pick quaint Kalkan, it’s proximity to Patara, Turkey’s longest sandy beach allows a long walk along the seaside and a dash of culture when you check out the ancient site right next to the beach. Near Patara, Prima Donna Hotel is at the top of the list of most romantic hotels in Turkey. Check out their individually styled houses where comfort and design go hand in hand. From beautiful Kaş, you could add a day trip to Kastellorizo, the forgotten treasure of the Greek islands. This is most probably the prettiest island in the Dodecanese, and it takes less than a half an hour by boat to get there.

Simena and Kekova

Idyllic Kekova & Simena

Idyllic Kekova & Simena

If boat trips are on top of your romantic things list, then Simena and the sunken city of Kekova might be the perfect choice for your amorous venture. The best way to get to Simena is a boat trip from Kaleüçağız. You’ll see that most hotels in Simena offer this service free of charge. The perfect start to a romantic trip! You’ll love the spectacular surroundings and the history of this place. Venture up to the castle and enjoy the views from within the tiniest Lycian theatre on earth. Ask a local to take you on a boat trip to the sunken ruins of Kekova, and watch the sunset from the shore. This is a slice of paradise! Check out the rooms with a fireplace and a view at Simena Pension to add that extra bit of romance!

Faralya and Butterfly Valley

The Natural Charm Of Butterfly Valley

The Natural Charm Of Butterfly Valley

If you’re into nature, hiking, yoga, and a stunning view, Faralya and Butterfly Valley will undoubtedly appeal to you. This area is not too far from Fethiye and famous Ölüdeniz, but it has so far remained relatively untouched. The reason is probably the rather long but incredibly scenic mountain road that takes you to Faralya. Butterfly Valley is another piece of cake since the best way to get to Butterfly Valley is by boat. In fact, it is the only safe way to access this amazing place. A winter visit to Faralya and Kelebekler Vadisi as the valley is called in Turkish means you probably won’t be able to enjoy a swim, but you will love the hiking scene. You are right on the Lycian Way, a long distance footpath combining a spectacular scenery with a fascinating history. To top it all up, stay locally at Keyif Motel where you will enjoy fabulous views over Butterfly Valley and a traditional and delicious meal by the fire.

Kayaköy

Fascinating Kayaköy

Fascinating Kayaköy

Yes, there’s a romantic touch to the abandoned village of Kayaköy, near Fethiye. While this ghost town has become a tourist attraction, you won’t have to worry about running into too many tourists in winter. The abandoned village has some great photo-ops, especially if you don’t mind getting up early when dawn is visible above the ruins. Kayaköy in winter is quiet, laid-back, and typical. Take a walk up to the old chapel for a view of the beautiful Lycian coastline. After that, go wine tasting at the local wine cellar in Lebessos wine house from where you can enjoy the view of the ruins with a delicious local wine. Kayaköy Boutique Hotel has beautiful rooms in a quiet setting, perfect for a romantic retreat.

Istanbul

Mesmerizing Istanbul

With a jaw-dropping history and a skyline to go with that, this metropole on two continents has everything you need to make all your valentine’s day ideas come true. You’ll find secret spots, lush parks, waterside dining options and much, much more in Istanbul. Did you know you can even visit Istanbul for free during a long layover?
