Atatürk Commemoration Day is a public holiday which means schools, government offices, banks and post offices, and businesses close. Tourist attractions, shops, and restaurants will remain open as usual. You may notice a change in the routes of some buses due to sports events. The sports events mark the end of a 10-day marathon where young athletes carry the Turkish flag from the Black Sea port of Samsun to Ankara, where the President accepts the flag during a special ceremony.
